Tom Brady, St. Louis Performance Artist Creates Zilch: a retelling inspired by the Elie Wiesel book “Night”

Performance Artist Tom Brady is partnering once again with Choreographer Monica Newsam to create Zilch, a compelling retelling inspired by the Elie Wiesel book Night detailing his overwhelming loss and survival in a Nazi concentration camp.

Brady researches projects over a multi-year period with in person interviews and related reading. He then creates original music, stage, lighting, movement and video transporting audience from his studio on Locust Street to a horrific night in the midst of the Holocaust.

Zilch explores vertical space with gravity defying movements.  Brady creates and directs the mise en sconce, video with live performance creating a very visceral audience experience.  This is demanding work performed full out.

Brady has worked collaboratively with Newsam on numerous innovative projects involving live performance and video – Prodigal; Fogdog; 3 Row Poles to Enlightenment to name just a few. Newsam and Brady share creative priorities, propelling each to dream while demanding more in their mutual effort to define the human experience.

Beckah Voigt Reed, who performed in the Preview of Zilch last season, will return in a video performance segment with Brady and Jon White.  Zlatko Cosic has joined Brady for Zilch in creative collaboration on video elements, expanding the possibilities, contributing his creative insight.

Performers contribute their creative energy as well.  Alix Black, Amanda Edgar, Amanda Gouveia, Amanda Lee, Andy Lechner, Camille Krueger, Constance Steinkamp, Erik Kuhn, Liam Charles Janski, Jonathan White, Lilly Steele,Robert Haupt and Tom Brady

Wiesel, in the preface to the current publication, expressed his concern that the sacrifices and lessons learned from this dark time in history be lost, consumed by the silence.

Brady is determined to add his creative voice to amplify the message for contemporary audiences – least we forget.

Tom Brady, Monica Newsam, Zlatko Cosic will be joined by local St. Louis artists on Feb 13, 14, 15; 21,22; 28 and final show March 1 – 8pm at Satori 3003 Locust Street, St. Louis MO  to develop Zilch to its fullest expression of Brady’s vision.

Seating will be limited to 50 per show.
