The third part of my today’s vow to post News To Share from around the US:
WORCESTER — The African-American seniors group will host a reception from 10 to noon today to recognize art students of University Park Campus School who completed a black history mural that will be displayed at the Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St.
The mural, 18 feet by 5 feet, was started with a grant through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, but left unfinished for more than a decade after the original artist died.
The seniors group worked through the school superintendent and the School Department to arrange to have a UPCS art class finish the project, a collage of portraits featuring a diverse group of historical and contemporary figures, according to Laura Pearson of the seniors group.
The mural will be unveiled at today’s two-hour event, which is open to the public.
