A Note to US All from Sun Smith-Foret:
“Two large pieces from the African American Series of my studio’s film related artworks, SPIKE LEE JOINTOGRAPHY 1 and 2, will be in the Gallery Admin at Flo Valley CC as part of this initiative coordinated by Freida Wheaton of Salon 53.
Special thanks to Jim Price, Dept. of Film Studies and Gallery Designer at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey Il., for suggesting the theme, a comprehensive Spike Lee filmography. The mixed media textiles were constructed at the Jacoby Arts Center Studios, Alton, Il. in 2012 following a solo show at LCCC.
Spike Lee visited Ferguson last month. Most of us are familiar with his long term cinematic focus and activism on issues around race and class. ArtistTalk on Wed. Nov. 17th at 1:30pm. Please see the wonderfully graphic poster presented by the Alliance of Black Art Galleries, Freida L. Wheaton, Founder & owner of Salon 53.
