Silver Screen Series Returns in September! “films celebrating creative aging through the arts”

Maturity and Its Muse, with the Creve Coeur Arts Commission, will again present a film series this September, focusing on positive aging themes. Each viewing concludes with an optional discussion. All screenings are held at AMC Creve Coeur 12, 10465 Olive Boulevard, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, September 8: On Golden Pond

Family friction and conflict, anger and fear of growing old are at the heart of this film about relationships – starring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn (both of whom won Academy Awards for their performances) and Jane Fonda. Discussion Leader: Julie Frankel, Lifetime Guidance Counselor

Monday, September 15: Gran Torino

Clint Eastwood plays a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family. He develops an unexpected friendship with a neighboring family as this bittersweet story unfolds. Discussion Leader: Tom Meuser, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Gerontology Graduate Program Coordinator, University of Missouri-St. Louis

Monday, September 22: Last Vegas

Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline, best friends since childhood, decide to have one last fling, traveling to Las Vegas. The guys find both their relationships and Las Vegas changed. Discussion Leader: Marla Berg-Weger, Ph.D., LCSW, Professor, Executive Director, Geriatric Education Center, Saint Louis University

Monday, September 29: The Bucket List

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, cancer ward roommates, compose a list of all the things they’d like to do before they “kick the bucket.” This film is an inspired salute to life that proves the best time of all is right now. Discussion Leader: Marylen Mann, Founder, OASIS

Thanks to the generosity of AMC Creve Coeur 12 and the City of Creve Coeur, the Silver Screen Series is offered free of charge to the public. These events would not be possible without the help of our community partners: OASIS, The Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging at Washington University, Cinema St. Louis, and VOYCE: We Empower and Educate.
