Barbara Simon Sharing Her Thoughts About Sun Smith-Foret’s Quilts From Films

“Contemporary Textiles and the Art of Stitchery,” curated by one of my  favorite St. Louis Artist Muses, Barbara Simon, is currently on view at St. Louis Artists’ Guild. I visited the show the night Barbara gave a talk about her work and the work of others in the show. Several of the artists were present to share stories about their craft and the memories that were embedded in their art. One of my favorite artists and people, Sun Smith-Foret was not present, but her quilts shone brightly in a gallery all her own. Each one tells the story, in Sun’s visual words, of the meaning and inspiration of a film, and the message the film and its actors evokes for her. My particular favorite is “Samantha Morton Being Female,” and that is just it…nothing could be more feminine! All the art invites an up close and personal look. I hope you have time to do the same. St. Louis Artists’ Guild 2 Oak Knoll Park, St Louis, MO 63105 until October 26.  for more information http://www.stlouisartistsguild.org/new/current_exhibits
